Private holiday villas and vacation rentals in Krk The city of Krk on the island of the same name has also developed as far as tourism is concerned, although external factors have played an important part. Amongst these is the beginning of rail and steamship traffic.
Following the construction of the railway that connected Trieste with Rijeka, other parts of Europe were also connected with this area. Apart from the already mentioned factors, the area's history and culture have considerably contributed to the development of tourism as the same city of Krk is a city of history and culture.
The first hotel facilities were built in the area of Drazice, where a beach for hotel guests and later on for local residents can be found in the bay of the same name. The above mentioned Drazice beach was founded in 1910. At that time changing rooms were built, which can be seen on postcards from that period. From a variety of sources we can conclude that the people of Krk paid great attention to tourist development, however tourism did not develop considerably between the First and the Second World Wars. The main characteristic of the city of Krk was its culinary offer which was dedicated to the common people and which can be seen in the large number of restaurants and taverns found there. From the early Middle Ages traces can be found of the town's culinary offer which even today continues to be the basis of city life here. A café was mentioned here for the first time back in 1763, whilst organised tourist attractions were being pursued as early as 1848.
In the post war period of tourism development, between 1959 and 1960 the first caravan park was founded on the island. In 1960 the Hotelsko poduze?e Krk (Krk's hotel company) was founded. At that time, for the first time since the Second World War, all catering capacities were united under one company.
From a total of 3 blue flags assigned for marines in the Kvarner bay area, one of them was assigned to the Punat Marina. Furthermore, the above mentioned marina has been a blue flag winner every year since 1998.
The blue flag is a symbol of a well preserved, safe and pleasant environment dedicated to holidays, entertainment and recreation, of a well elaborated system of ruling the coastal area and of sustainable tourism development. To have a Blue flag on a beach or marina signifies excellent tourist promotion based on high quality services, a clean sea and shore and beach equipment and facilities.
