Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland is popular with both visitors and local inhabitants. The city centre is so compact, full of fascinating place many with historical significance, most of which are within short walking distances of each other.
The Castle, in the centre of the city, houses the Scottish Crown Jewels and the Stone of Destiny, as well as displaying many items of historical interest. From its position high on Castlehill, Edinburgh Castle has magnificen views over the City and the surrounding countryside. The shores of the Forth Estuary and the Port of Leith lie to the north and moored here is the former Royal Yacht “Britannia”. Just a mile to the east of the Castle is Holyrood Palace, the New Scottish Parliament and from there you can climb Arthurs Seat in Holyrood Park.
During August, the renowned Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is held on the Castle Esplanade and this is temporarily transformed by the building of stands to host the numerous visitors wishing to see this magnificent spectacle. Also in August there are manu Festivals including the Edinburgh International Festival and Fringe Festival which bring many shows, plays, artistes and entertainers to Edinburgh for a four week extravaganza. Indeed throughout the year the City is home to numerous Festivals, Art Collections, Exhibitions, Special events and with numerous Galleries and Museums there is always plenty to do and see.
There are Botanic Gardens, a Zoo and a wide selection of restaurants, theatres, shops and entertainments to be visited. The choice is yours, to do what you want, when you want and how you want .
