Casa Rafela
Casa Rafela is a two bedroomed, typical Catalan stone built cottage which has been carefully restored by its present owners over the past two decades using traditional methods and materials. It is located in the tiny village, or rather hamlet, of Fígols which nestles beneath the 1000 meter escarpment of the Sierra de Montllobar in the Catalan Pre-Pyrenees.

Whilst kites, vultures and other raptors circle overhead the house looks out directly over orchards and open woodland before the landscape drops sharply to the floor of the Conca de Tremp, once the bed of an inland sea where dinosaurs roamed during the Cretaceous period. In the distance the peaks surrounding the Principality of Andorra can be seen, snow capped from October to May, whereas nearer to hand lies the Sierras de Baumort, like Montllobat, is also a Reserva Nacional de Caza , which equates to a National Park in Great Britain. Over to the south stretches the great barrier of the Sierra de Montsec, bisected by ravines boasting three hundred metre sheer cliffs and having its own distinct micro climate with several sub-species of flora and fauna and which is another Reserva Nacional!

Fígols is situated right at the heart of in this once remote area. There is more than enough to see and do to suit whatever taste: outward bound and adventure sports, teeming wildlife, a unique cultural heritage (the province has the richest repository of Romanesque architecture in the world) and, for those whose sense of adventure is more sedate, a renowned centre to enjoy the best of Catalan cuisine.

With its two well appointed bedrooms, one en suite, large terrace, discrete style and tried and tested fittings Casa Rafaela provides an ideal base to enjoy a holiday somewhere really different, and only two and a half hours from Barcelona!
