Description of the Property - Vacation Home BRNA-SMOKVICA-KORCULA
Destination BRNA
Basic information Village and harbor in one of the bays on the southern side of the island of Korcula, 19 km east of Vela Luka and 4 km from Smokvica. Thanks to its position, it has favorable climate and is protected from the Bura wind in winter. It is known for vineyards and the wines Rukatac and Posip. The gastronomic offer includes fish specialties and the already mentioned excellent wines that go well with Dalmatian cuisine. Founded in the 19th century with the purpose of exporting wine from the island to the mainland, Brna is nowadays more oriented towards tourism and offers holiday and accommodation facilities. The pebble and sandy beaches surrounded by bushes and pine trees are characteristic for this area. The beautiful sea abundant in fish makes this destination very attractive for fishing and sailing enthusiasts, whereas the islets and cliffs dispersed in front of Brna are a challenge for skippers. It is connected to the mainland by ferry lines from Split to the town of Korcula or Vela Luka or from Orebic to the town of Korcula.
Additional facilities: Interesting cultural sites are located in the place of Smokvica. There, you can visit Baroque houses, fortalices of Korcula's aristocrats and the parish church Ociscenje Blazene Djevice Marije that was built at the beginning of the century on the foundations of a 17th century church. In the vicinity of Brna lies the bay of Istruga, known for medicinal mud that is used by the locals who believe that it has beneficial effects.
We recommend: Visits to the surroundings, the place of Blato with fortalices and houses of historic value, the town of Vela Luka, nowadays a ferry port, in the past a place where the first Greek colony on the island was founded, Vela spilja Cave, a Neolithic archeological site above Vela Luka, the place of Smokvica, known for its Baroque houses, the village of Cara, famous for the celebration Gospa od Carskog polja. In the place of Smokvica, we recommend visits to Baroque houses, fortalices of Korcula's aristocrats and the parish church Ociscenje Blazene Djevice Marije that was, at the beginning of the century, built on the foundations of a 17th century church.
