The ancient village of ROCCATEDERIGHI nestles in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma, to the north of the province of Grosseto, behind the metalliferous hills that mark its border with the Sienese hinterland. Roccatederighi is one the Maremma's interesting medieval villages. Situated at an altitude of 538 m above sea level and hidden amidst gigantic rocks of rhyolite, called 'the masses', its profile marked by towers and rooftops stands out perfectly integrated with the surrounding nature. This ancient village can be accessed through a round arched door, which opens amidst the masses and the walls and leads into a maze of alleys, arcades and flights of steps. Here you will be astounded to see rocks of trachyte used as the foundations and bulwarks of dwellings. In Piazzetta Senese you will find the clock tower and the ruins of the keep, while the church of San Martino stands in the opposite direction. It is built on a rocky spur located on the site of the original castle. Proceeding to the top of the rocks you will be enchanted by the far-reaching view of the entire Grosseto plane, the sea and the islands of the Tuscan archipelago. Do not fail to visit the Tufolino, with its flight of steps and houses dug in rock. Directions. Coming from Leghorn (Livorno), travel along the Aurelia road, exit at Gavorrano Scalo and proceed towards Ribolla. Once you pass this town, you will find the directions for Roccatederighi near Borgo di Montemassi. If you are travelling instead from Rome, exit at Braccagni, follow the directions for Montemassi and once you get there you will find the road-signs for Roccatederighi. Many are also the tourist sites that are easy to reach from Roccatederighi, such as Massa Marittima, Roccastrada, Castiglione Della Pescaia, San Galgano, Grosseto (35 Km), Siena (58 Km) and many others along the wonderful coast, like Follonica (45 Km) and Punta Ala (50 Km).
