La Platriere Cottage is situated within 3 acres of gardens and adjoins the main house where English owners live and run a retreat guest house. The property offers stunning views stretching across the valley and surrounding countryside. This superb cottage offers you spacious accommodation with the possibility of sleeping up to 6 people. Whilst adjoining the main house it has its own enclosed private garden and private parking space. Inside is designed with your comfort in mind, all linen and towels are provided and included in the price and for those cooler months the cottage is well insulated and centrally heated.

Whilst staying in La Platriere Cottage you will be able to enjoy the large outdoor swimming pool, petanque and larger gardens within La Platriere Retreat, as well as having your own private enclosed garden.

The kitchen with dining area is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need during your stay, with washing machine, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, microwave, electric oven, hob and extractor hood. During wet weather guests can use for a small charge the tumble dryer in the main house. The dining area has French doors leading out into the private garden and outdoor furniture and barbeque. Open plan beams lead the way into one of the two sitting rooms where for your entertainment are TV, video, music centre, a selection of books and games.

The other sitting rooms in the cottage can double up as a 3rd bedroom as it has a good quality bed-settee. Also downstairs are the bathroom (with french bath, shower, and vanity unit with basin) and separate toilet. A beautiful open-tread oak staircase leads upstairs where there are 2 adjoining bedrooms (one double, one twin-bedded). Both bedrooms have exposed beams and dormer windows look out across the garden to the countryside beyond.

The cottage garden has outdoor furniture, parasol and barbeque. All guests are welcome to enjoy the larger gardens at La Platriere, which include the large swimming pool surrounded by sun terrace where you can laze away hot summer days relaxing on the sun loungers. For the slightly more energetic guests can play boules on the petanque pitch, or maybe a game of croquet. (equipment provided)

La Platriere Retreat is in a hamlet of around 6 houses (La Platriere) and is situated just off the D64 halfway between the small town of Lurcy-Levis and the village of Valigny.
It is in the Allier departement in the region of Auvergne, and close to the borders of Cher in Centre and the Nievre in Burgundy (Bourgogne), so benefits from the characteristics of 3 regions.
La Platriere is close to (about 5 kms) from the Forest of Troncais, renowned to be the largest oak plantation in France. Many of its oak trees are 400+ years old. There are lots of walks and bridlepaths. The forest is home to many large and small lakes, some of which have sandy beaches for swimming, and bathing.
There are several base de loisoirs with sailing, pedalo hire, windsurfing, canoeing and kayaking.
Locally in the forest there are fishing, horseriding, and hunting.
We are also close to the river Allier where there is canoeing, and guided expedititions. Aprement-sur-Allier, one of the most beautiful villages in France is a 20 minute drive away, situated on the river Allier, an old medieval port, with a chateaux, floral park and 12th century church. Five minutes drive from there is the Bec d'Allier where the Allier joins the river Loire.
All around the area, in fact every 5 kms there are chateaux, some of which are open to the public. The area is Bourbonnais, and famous for the Bourbon dukes and birth place of several kings of France. There are also fortified castles at Bourbon L'Archambault (25 mins drive away) and Herrison. Also at Bourbon there are thermal Spa baths open to the public, a great place to just relax and be pampered. There is also a Casino at Bourbon.

Arrival

Arrival times are from 4pm on commencement of holiday, departure by 10 am on day of leaving. During the summer months changeover day is strictly Saturdays.
