The island of SOLTA, a jewel in the Adriatic, lies due southwest of the city of SPLIT - the main economic and cultural center on the coast of Central Dalmatia; the middle region of CROATIA.
The island of SOLTA belongs to a medium sized archipelago of Adriatic islands including Brac and Hvar, which are it's closest island neighbors. However, judging it by its natural endowments, SOLTA is certainly amongst the most beautiful. Just 19km long and 5km wide and only 16 km (9 nautical miles) from the mainland city of Split. The numerous natural rock and pebble beaches and coves offer plenty of uncrowded spaces for sunbathing, swimming, line fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving and windsurfing in clear azure waters. Because of the lack of large commercial industry and mass tourism, the island of SOLTA remains an oasis of tranquil untouched natural beauty.

The coastal village of Maslinica encompasses a beautiful azure blue bay at the western end of the island of SOLTA. An archipelago of seven small islets surrounds the mouth of the bay of Maslinica. Maslinica was truly established in 1703, when the aristocratic family Marchi build a castle with high walls and towers. Today, that 17th century baroque castle is newly renovated as the Martinis-Marchi luxury 5star heritage hotel with open air restaurant and harbor side yacht moorings.

Amenities: 4 restaurants, 2 cocktail bars (one of them on the beach which has a shower) Supermarket, open grocery shop, Tourist Board Office and Currency Exchange. You can rent a boat or kayak, as well as a bike. You can take a lessons of scuba diving.
On the island there are variety of taverns and restaurants providing traditional food dishes and local wines.

Arrival

Take the ferry or catamaran from Split to main port of Rogac on the island of Solta.
In a high season there are 6 ferry lines daily and two catamaran lines sailing from Split to Rogac. For a ferry it took 45 minutes from Split to Rogac and for catamaran it took 30 minutes. The port Rogac is 9 kilometers far away from Maslinica. If you buy international ferry tickets (Ancona-Split) at the beginning of the year, you can get a great discount. If you're coming by plane you can rent a car at the airport.
