Beskrivelse Feriehus Loceri

On the Ogliastra hills, at 200m of altitude, surrounded by lush olive groves and vineyards, lies the charming village of Loceri. The territory has a wealth of archaeological remains of several periods. The domus de janas, Sa Mardona and the nuraghi of Nuraxi and of Cea can be visited and also the giants' tombs at Cea.
It is well worth climbing up the hill that overlooks the village to visit the nuragh Serra Uleri .From its summit that dominates the valley one can enjoy the splendid view. A visit to the Domus de Janas in the Serra Paulis area, also called Pirarba, is fascinating. The way there is up a path along which one can admire the typical lush vegetation of Loceri.
Very typical are the country churches of San Bachisio, in the popular Baroque style, dating back to the 17th century near the soccer field, and the Sacro Cuore next to the park named after the church itself, on the road from Pelau to Lanusei, direction Taccus.
Porto Frailis, it is situated on the east coast of Sardinia. The port and airport of Arbatax are only a 10 minute drive away. Marvellous green trees form the principal characteristics of this town. Olive trees, hundreds and even thousands of years old, adorn and tinge the town square and slopes which rise up from the sea and are interrupted only by the white stones of the antique church. This church was built in 1050 by the Princess of Navarra (hence the name of the town). The impressive grey Spanish Tower guards the bay with its sandy beaches. The town offers all kinds of amenities that tourists require. One of them is the modern tourist harbour set in marvellous surroundings. Thanks to different kinds of boat services one can visit the unique coastline of the Mediterranean; 45 km of wild cliffs interrupted here and there by the dazzling white coves which in turn look on to an uncontaminated blue-green sea. Or choose from one of the many excursions which leave Santa Maria Navarrese to the mountain town of Baunei to visit a rich territory full of nature trails and history whilst admiring numerous traces left by man and his accordance with nature along the way.

Situated in the centre-east of Sardinia, the region of Ogliastra includes the territories of 23 towns and villages. The most important centre is Tortolì, starting-point of three distinct itineraries which allow us to explore most of the Ogliastra territory. The first itinerary goes along the road SS 125 Orientale Sarda, passing Girasole, Lotzorai, the detour to Triei, Baunei and Urzulei. The second one starts from Tortolì and passes through Ilbono, Elini, Arzana, Villagrande and Talana, whereas the third one includes the villages of Barisardo, Cardedu, Jerzu, Ulassai, Osini, Gairo, Lanusei and Loceri. Lotzorai, with the Medusa Castle, the complex of 13 domus de janas (= fairy houses) dug into a granitic hillock, at Km. 3 on the road to Talana, and the wood of Su Padentino, composed of secular plants and trees. Passing Lotzorai, a detour will take you to Santa Maria Navarrese (a hamlet of Baunei), a most renowned seaside resort provided with a modern tourist port and a port of shipment to the inlets and the Caves of Bue Marino. Back to the Orientale road, almost straight away, there is one more detour to Triei; just before the village, about 4 km. further, an asphalted road leads to the plateau of Osono, which is rich in natural springs. Here you can see the Royal eagle, vultures and hawks, and visit a well-preserved Tomb of Giants. The itinerary leads on to Baunei, which is most interesting for the lanscape and the naturalistic beauty due to the Golgo plateau, with 'Su Sterru' which is the deepest chasm to be found in Europe; and its coast with the highest cliffs of the Mediterranean Sea and the Inlets of Mariolu, Luna, Biriola, Sisine and Goloritzé. Situated over 500 m high in the mountains, Urzulei is the departure point to an unforgettable visit to the Gorge of Gorroppu which, with its 500 m high rock-face, is the highest Canyon in Europe. In this territory, rare and precious typical plants and rare animal species find their natural habitat. From Tortolì, starting the second itinerary, at Km. 101,400 on the road to Ilbono, one finds the detour to Cheri, an area of great natural and archaeological beauty. Elini, a small village provided with an interesting granite train station, and a reservoir for supplies to the steam-engines; Arzana, with the wood of Carmine, the homonymous country church in Elini, and the nuraghic complex of Ruinas near Bruncu Evane; Villagrande and Villanova Strisaili, almost on the slopes of Gennargentu, with the splendid view over the lake High Flumendosa, the abundance of spring waters, the wood of S. Barbara and the nuraghic site of S'Arcu 'e Forros with a megaron temple and two underground temples. Talana, situated 500 m above sea level, has got a harsh territory, and peaks rising to 1500 metres; it is rich in springs and small lakes and pre-nuraghic and nuraghic findings in the areas of Silcararo, Bau 'e Tanca, Serra er Domos and Nercone. The first village you come across in the third itinerary is Barisardo with its truncated cone Spanish Tower (dating back to the XVII century) on the seashore, the beach of Cea with its red porphyry rocks leading further to the sea, and the damp areas of Bau Eni and Tramalitzia on the boundary of the Cardedu coast and the naturalistic complex of Montiferru. Jerzu, home of the oldest vine, the Cannonau, which produces one of the most famous red wines, a place rich in archaeological findings still to be exploited. Ulassai, with the Cave of "Su Marmuri', one of the biggest and most imposing of Sardinia, at the base of 'Tacchi', covered with forests and rich in natural springs that sometimes turn into majestic waterfalls.
Osini Nuova, which was built after 1951, and the old village, abandoned between 1951 and 1960 because of a terrible flood, the perfect image of any Ogliastra village in the fifties. Gairo with the domus de janas of Scalarrana and the nuraghic villages of Is Tostoinus and Perdu Isu, the big natural monument of Perda 'e Liana and the abandoned village of Gairo Vecchio. Lanusei with the wood and the archaeological site of Selene, the observatory of Monte Armidda and the planetarium of the Liceo Ginnasio. Loceri with the domus de janas of Sa Madorna, the tombs of giants of Cea and the private museum Sa Domu 'e S'Olia.

Ogliastra, a fairly recent discovery with its beautiful coasts and mountainous interior. Its territory, wedged between sea and mountain, offers a vast array of unique landscapes.
A paradise of remarkable beauty situated along the eastern side of Sardinia, where nature is at its best. Some people think that the name Ogliastra derives from the wild olive trees growing in great numbers in the region, but more credited sources link it to the Agugliastra, a huge monolith overlooking the sea.
The Ogliastra coasts are splendid oases set between sea and rock, rugged nature to dazzle us with some of the most fascinating marine landscapes of the Mediterranean. Leaving from the north we encounter the renowned coves of Cala Luna, Cala Sisine, Cala Mariolu and Cala Goloritzé, accessible only by boat or on foot; further south there are the beautiful beaches of Tancau, Girasole, Orrì, Cea ,Barisardo, Cardedu, Coccorrocci and the gulf of Sarrala.
Enchanting, too is the landscape that climbs up the hills as far as the Gennargentu mountains, indulging the eyes with scenarios of rare beauty. Ogliastra is a land that must be relished slowly, it deserves more than just the hurried glance of conventional tourism. The entire territory is scattered with archaeological monuments, well-worth visiting: Nuraghi, Domus de Janas, Fonti Sacre, Tombe dei Giganti and Menhir.
One can follow trekking itineraries to the discovery of unforgettable places on foot, horseback or by bike, car or land-rover; walking from the mountains towards the sea following underground waterways amid century old forests, flowers, wild animals to reach incredibly beautiful coves.
For those who prefer to travel via the sea, an excursion aboard one of the many motor-boats that cruise along the coast is ideal.
The following pages are dedicated to those who wish to discover a paradise of priceless beauty, its culture, its people and its hospitality: Ogliastra.
No printed image can fully describe the magic and harmony of this land.
Territory of Lanusei
A small hilly town renowned for its invigorating healthy climate, Lanusei is set as an amphitheatre dominating a valley, the coast and the sea. Surrounded by a forest of oaks, it also enjoys a privileged central position and can make its own resources and those of neighbouring villages readily available to tourists.
A short drive takes the visitor to the beaches on the coast of Ogliastra, to the Gennargentu mountains or to the lakes, rivers and grottoes of the region.
It is the most important town for culture in Ogliastra, seat of the diocese and the religious college of the Salesiani, the law court and also the hospital. It has a wealth of cultural centres: museums, churches and monuments testify its resplendent past. Worth mentioning is the Astrological Observatory "F. Caliumi", open to the public, situated on the top of Monte Armidda, an ideal location, free from light pollution. Complementary to the Observatory is the Grammar School Planetarium, also open to the public.
The "Trenino verde" railway unwinds from Lanusei up to the suggestive heights of Pizzi Cuccu and Su Carmu from where one can admire the breathtaking landscapes of the Ogliastra valley. The territory includes the hilly hinterland and mountainous area between 150m and 1300m of Monte Selene, Monte Tricoli and Monte Armidda.
OGLIASTRA a paradise to be discovered
Ogliastra is a verdant region in the Province of Nuoro . Come to visit this region and you'll enjoy unforgettable moments. In summer it offers the nicest sea in the world , but , out of the bathing season it may gives its most exciting surprises . The house CASA ROSA is located in Barisardo , a village known for its famous Saracen Tower on a long white beach and its small square , bordered by the portico of the fine hotel La Torre and a nice pine-wood . Barisardo is a seaside resort a few kilometres away from Arbatax Harbour : it is pleasant because its beaches are sheltered from the wind and well equipped. Far from city strife and scarcely populated , its countryside opens onto picturesque landscapes in which the solemn silence allows the tourist to approach a world that is still primordial. The natural enviroment , the flora and fauna of such places takes shapes, forms and colours hardly encountered elsewhere in Europe . To these features , unusual yet pleasing, we attribute the undeniable touristic success of our region.
From Dorgali to Marina di Gairo , begins one of the most most majestical coastal scenes of all the Mediterranean. Everywhere rocky outcrops stand out, followed by long white beaches , surrounded by the infinite patches of Mediterranean bush.
Among the many possible itineraries perhaps the most fascinating one is to walk on the limestone area between Dorgali-Oliena-Baunei ; this "apocalyptic" site together with the Grand Canyon in Colorado are thought to be the two faces of the planet with the most rugged orography known to man.
Also in this region is the vatest oak forest in all of Europe. The local fauna is very interesting, it includes somes of the rarest animal species in Europe: the muflon , the marten and various species of birds of pray such as the eagle , the falcon , the hawk and the goshawk. This fauna provides for amazing photographic safaris.
The flora in this countryside is typically Mediterranean and much of it is indigenous to Sardinia . There are forests of thousand-year-old holm oaks and junipers. In spring time , the mediterranean environment of the entire region bursts in a triumph of colours with blossoms and fragrances .
In all the area of Barisardo , from the hills in front of the sea , to the mountains tops , there are imposing archeologycal witnesses of the past , grand remains of the neolitic civilization, plus hundreds of nuraghi, prehistorical tombs of the "Giants" at Monti de Ferru , "Domus de Janas"( houses of the witches)
Barisardo offers an exceptional gastronomy with excellent specialities of seafood and also products from the interland : wines, cheeses ( goat cheese , acid cheese ) ; don't miss of enjoyng the local "culurgiones", they are ravioli stuffed with fresh cheese, potatoes and mint leaves, they are a real gastronomic experience. The local ham and sausages are particularly tasty, owing to the fact that pigs are free-range. And finally what about pastry? There are quite a few specialities and all of them are different : basolu turradu, amarettus ( of almond paste), bianchini , canestrelli, cattas, copulettas, papassinos , tilicas, zippulas . I'll touch on a couple of them , the best known . The "pardulas" , big sweets of fresh cheese, lemon and honey, the "Sebadas", which are fritters made of a batter and filling of fresh sheep cheese ( pecorino) and grated lemon rind, fried in boiling oil and dusted with bitter honey .
To those who come we offer the best of our natural treasures , our hospitality and courtesy.
In exchange we expect that whoever comes respects and preserves the natural surroundings , without living any trace of his presence, allowing those who will follow afterwards to relive the down of man and enjoy the mediterranean nature.
